Guidelines to upgrade your old engine to FADEC ecu system:

Dear costumer,

Often we have requests from users that wish to upgrade his engines to our system. We have prepared this document to suggest you the apropiate products on our web site.   A effort is being done to document all engines and variants, but could be that your setup is not documented, in this case, please ask us.

Currently our system don't support engines using infrared RPM sensors, but if enough interest exist we will fill this void.

IIMPORTANT NOTE:  WE ONLY WILL SUGGEST AND PROVIDE YOU THE MATERIALS NECESSARY BUT IN NO CASE WE WILL PROVIDE YOU A PLUG AND PLAY SYSTEM.  OUR UNITS NEED TO BE CONFIGURED TO YOUR PARTICULAR ENGINE, WE CANNOT SUPPLY THE CONFIGURATION DATA TO SUIT YOUR PARTICULAR ENGINE. IF YOU DON'T KNOW HOW TO TEST AND CONFIGURE YOUR UNIT, PLEASE HAVE THE CONVERSION DONE BY ONE OF THE SPECIALIZED COMPANIES. 

SIMJET:

Simjet engines are directly compatible with our magnetic sensor, no modifications on the engine are necessary.  Some engines have a Speed400/7,2V starter, we recommend to replace it by a Speed400/6V. DO not use the Speed400/4.8V. Some SJ1200 and the SJ700 use the Speed 300 motor (smaller). It is OK.

Original SimJet setup include 9,6V battery and 12V valves, that aren't compatible.

The items you need:

1. FADEC ECU

1. Data terminal 

1. Magnetic sensor.

1. Set of Autostart cables

1. RX cable

1. Thermocouple. 150mm long for SJ1700,2300, 3000, Nexus and Sonic, 100mm for the SJ700, SJ1200, 1800

2. Valves. You can choose between low cost  plastic type, same valve for gas and fuel, or the  miniature metal body  for gas and fuel types of 6V.

1.  Battery. 2000mAh minimum Lipo Battery of 2s (7,4V) or NiCd/NiMh of of 7,2V (DO NOT use any other voltage). Xicoy don't carry batteries at this moment.

PUMP: Usually the one supplied with your engine is OK. If you need a replacement, use the 30020 for engines from 2300 and up, and the 28020 / FW200 for the smaller ones.

Optional items: Airspeed sensor (pitot),, RS232/USB conection lead.

RAM:

There are 2 types of RAM engines.

-Pressure controlled. These engines need to be modified to install a magnet inside the compressor nut to provide a signal for the magnetic sensor, and some need a electric starter. The easiest way is to replace the compressor nut by a Wren MW54 nut, and to install a Wren starter if autostart is desired, although this need a bit of work in the front cover of the engine. Check Wren website for these parts.

-RPM controlled: These engines are directly compatible with our magnetic sensor, no modifications on the engine are necessary.  Some engines have a slow speed starter that make difficult the start, we recommend to replace it by a Xseries starter.

Original RAM setup include 7,2V battery, Hausl pump and 6V valves, that are 100% compatible.

The items you need for a full autostart are:

1. RX cable

1. Thermocouple. 150mm long for 750/1000, 100mm for the RAM500. The original thermocouple could be used if the connector is replaced for a JR type.

2. Valves. You can use the RAM ones, but if you need a replacement you can choose between  low cost  plastic type, same valve for gas and fuel, or the  miniature metal body  for gas and fuel types of 6V.

Original PST pump,  and 6V valves, that are 100% compatible. The thermocouple could be used if the connector is replaced for a JR type.
